Gold Creek Park Site Inventory
In 2004, SUN was contacted by Tara Irwin, Director of the Gold Creek Lodge, a Boys and Girls Club facility located on King County park land in Woodinville. Tara was interested in documenting the vegetation and condition of trails in the park.
The Boys and Girls Club offers day and overnight programs to youth from King and neighboring counties. In addition to using the park for environmental eduction, the Club provides stewardship for the park. The park is widely used by the surrounding community for recreation, hiking and horse riding.
SUN classified the forests in Gold Creek Park into 15 habitat types, conducted a trail erosion study, and mapped the trails and areas of invasive plant infestation.

In addition to a vegetation survey, SUN ecologists developed two educational programs to provide hands-on learning experiences for Boys and Girls club youth. One program focused on general concepts of GIS mapping. The other introduced concepts and methods of plant ecology and vegetation sampling.

The project resulted in a report which described the findings of the vegetation survey and made management recommendations to help the Boys and Girls club conduct stewardship and restoration activities within the park. The report is available for download on the top right of this page.
